Gauteng Provincial Legislature

The Gauteng Legileslature will be celebrating 20 Years of a Democratic Parliament which is the Opening of the 5th Term of the 4th Legislature.

The Opening of the Legislature gives the Gauteng Premier, Ms Nomvula Mokonyane, to deliver the State of the Province Address. The Premier’s address will highlight the Provincial Government’s achievements and communicate the programme of action, as well as priorities for 2014/15.

The Opening of the Legislature is an opportunity for the Premier to assess Gauteng’s situation and to outline what should people do so that they can enhance their efforts to achieve a better life for all.

The State of the Province Address also provides GPL with an opportunity to enhance its oversight responsibility, to identify key aspects of this oversight for the coming year and to plan how to ensure the facilitation of public involvement in legislative processes.

The public participation aspect of the ceremony at the opening will include Guards of Honour. Because 2014 is an election year, it is expected that there will be another State of the Province Address after the national and provincial election. The date for the election is still to be set. The 2014 State of the Province Address will be delivered in the evening, at around 19.00, as has been the case for the past years. The forthcoming State of the Province Address will be followed by debate on the address, and the Premier’s reply to the debate.
